With a deep expertise in leading stakeholder committees for major capital projects, and a passion for helping, Tate Engineering sought Roger Plant to work with them as the Project Manager to lead the development of the East Hants Aquatic Centre project currently under construction in Elmsdale.
As the first hires of the build for Kate Friars, the project liaison for the Municipality of East Hants and moreover, the new Aquatic Centre, Tate’s role was fundamental to the success of the project and in achieving budget goals, design goals, quality assurance and leadership for the development of a $19-million Aquatic Centre for the residents of East Hants.
When Kate set out to hire a project managing company, she was looking for someone who could assist in ensuring the project would stay on budget as well as on schedule, which is exactly what she’s seen. “Roger has been instrumental in keeping the project on track, and encouraging the design team to deliver on time”.
Moreover, “hiring Tate has been very beneficial in realizing the community’s dream” said Kate. A dream that involved a new, larger Aquatic Centre which will include a six-lane, 25-metre pool as well as a leisure pool with warm water and shallow depths, perfect for preschoolers and seniors, alike.
The facility will also include a large hot pool, universal change rooms designed for families and disabled individuals, along with separate female and male change rooms. No detail was left untouched as the centre will also contain multi-purpose rooms for meetings as well as dry land programs.
Roger has taught Kate to be patient while keeping things on schedule and moving forward. The project is currently ongoing, and working hard every day from her office, Kate says she enjoys seeing the construction happening and the project come into fruition.
As for now, it looks like it will be a battle for title of first person in the pool, as both Roger and Kate seem to have their eyes set on the prize for the September 2019 opening of the facility and they are excited to see the community join them in enjoying the new aquatic centre.
