Recommissioning for Energy Efficiency – DNR New Glasgow & DPW Middleton
Tate Engineering partnered with the Province of Nova Scotia to deliver recommissioning and energy optimization studies for two key facilities: the Department of Natural Resources office in New Glasgow and the Department of Public Works Area Office in Middleton. Both projects addressed aging HVAC systems, poor thermal comfort, and high energy costs through targeted upgrades and operational improvements. Recommendations included replacing outdated boilers and rooftop units with high-efficiency heat pump systems, integrating heat recovery ventilation, improving building envelopes, and modernizing controls. Together, these initiatives provide a clear roadmap for reducing energy use, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing comfort—aligning with Nova Scotia’s sustainability goals while ensuring reliable, cost-effective performance for government operations.
